Chatting with your assistant
Start conversations, follow your assistant's work in real time, and manage your chat history.
Your assistant lives one message away: when you open Tyms, you land on a composer, ready for your next request. This page covers the day-to-day of working in conversations.
Start a conversation
Type what you need in plain language and send it. There’s no special syntax to learn — describe the outcome you want, as you would to a colleague:
- “Summarize the attached contract and flag anything unusual.”
- “Build a simple cash-flow projection for the next two quarters.”
- “Draft a follow-up email to this customer about their renewal.”
Until you send your first message, Tyms shows suggested prompts based on your role — a quick way to see what your assistant can do.
You can also attach files to any message.
While your assistant works
Your assistant streams its answer as it works, and shows you what it’s doing:
- Status and thinking. You’ll see when your assistant is thinking, what step it’s on, and how long it’s been working.
- Activity steps. Expand the activity view on a response to see each step your assistant took — including the tools it used and how long each step took. This is the full trace of how your answer was produced.
- Stop anytime. If a response is heading the wrong way, stop it and rephrase. You don’t have to wait for it to finish.
Longer tasks may pause to ask you something — see Questions and approvals.
Working with responses
- Rich formatting. Responses render with headings, tables, and syntax-highlighted code. Code blocks have their own copy button.
- Copy a message. Every response has a copy button.
- Retry. If a response fails with an error, use the retry button to run it again.
- Give feedback. Rate any response with a thumbs up or down, and optionally add a note about what was right or wrong. Feedback goes to your workspace’s quality review, so it directly improves your assistant.
When a conversation produces a file — a document, spreadsheet, or deck — you’ll find a link to it in the conversation header, and the file itself in Drive.
Managing conversations
- Rename. Click the conversation title in the header to rename it.
- Recents. Your latest conversations are in the sidebar, with a snippet and time.
- History. Browse every past conversation on the history page.
- Working folder. Each conversation can be pointed at a Drive folder where its output files are saved — see Working with Drive.
Next steps
- Attaching files — give your assistant documents to work with.
- Questions and approvals — how your assistant checks in with you.
